Many of our products have brilliant shiny surfaces and glow like the crown jewels when they are carefully packaged by us or the manufacturer for shipment to you. We also know that you the customer who has spent loads of hard earned "moolah" buying them will treat them as fragile items when you open the packages on the kitchen table. Unfortunately it is also known throughout the industry that once you pass your shiny new knobs, locks, handles or whatever over to your friendly third party handyman or carpenter for final installation in the door they are susceptible to many forms of careless handling. The most common problem being loss of special screws or fittings which were packaged with the goods. Another common installation problem is burred-over screw heads due to the use of the wrong sized screwdriver. Also gashes and scratches to finished surfaces are common because the installer has accidentally let the chisel or screwdriver wander off target. Another failing is that in the case of mortise locks or knob sets which require a fair degree of expertise to fit, the installer has not routed out the door properly with the result that the lock jambs or does not freely operate. In these cases the locks works fine when held in the hands but not in the door. Many finishes have protective varnish or polyester coatings and if these coatings are damaged the items will lose their brilliance very quickly. If doors are painted after the locks and hardware are installed it is commonly found that some paint ends up on the brassware. If your handyman painter uses paint thinners or other solvents on the hardware to clean up then you can kiss goodbye to any long lasting shine. "Brickies" cleaning bricks near front doors with Oxalic acid create even worse problems than this. We draw your attention to these problems because no supplier in the industry can accept responsibility for blemishes such as the above and no claims in these respects will normally be recognized. |
